Dear Landlord:

We are residents of Mattapan who make our homes at xxxxx Rd.  Approximately 2 months ago, you purchased these buildings.  Almost immediately, you announced very high rent increases for our homes.  You want to double or almost double most of our rents!

Our families can’t afford to pay these rent increases.  With the help of City Life/Vida Urbana, we have formed a tenant association to seek negotiations with you.  We urge you to reconsider the large increases you have announced.

Our families want what everyone wants – secure, affordable homes.  We know that you are in business to make as much profit as you can, like all large owners.  But we don’t think it’s right to seek such profit at the expense of our homes.

Many of us have lived here for over 10 years, some much more than that.  These are not only our homes.  This is our community.  Our families know each other.  Our children play together and go to schools together.  We participate in the Mattapan community.  Community is important to everyone.

We have watched as other communities were torn apart by rising rents.  People who worked to make their neighborhoods better and safer could no longer live there as owners raised rents.  This shouldn’t happen to Mattapan.

We urge you to negotiate with us and work with us towards the goal of secure, affordable housing at xxxxx Rd.  You can reach us at the address above.

                                                                                                Sincerely,

Signed by all interested with building and apartment #’s
