Who we are

MASStenants.net, the website of the Massachusetts Tenants Network, was initiated during late 2001 by the Boston Tenant Coalition (BTC), in partnership with other area groups such as City Life/Vida Urbana, Massachusetts Law Reform, the Housing Opportunities Program (HOP) and concerned individuals. The Boston Tenant Coalition is a coalition of tenant and neighborhood grassroots groups, community development corporations, and housing, homeless and other advocacy organizations working together to promote affordable housing for tenants and low- and moderate-income residents in Boston. We recognizes that the problem of affordable housing is state-wide.While some portions of this site may seem specific to Boston, our goal is for most of the content to be equally relevant to any tenant in Massachusetts - because access to statewide information is a first step towards statewide action.

What we are trying to do

- Inform tenants about their rights as renters
- Connect tenant's organizations throughout the state
-
Consolidate Massachusetts housing resources on the web
- Develop new tools for community action
- Increase awareness of housing issues
- Complement existing efforts to end homelessness
- Realize inspired housing policy reform on all levels
- Establish institutional memory of the movement online
